Posey for Mar

My friend Margaret Fisk is doing a creativity thing on her blog this week, and she's asking for flower doodles. :)

Here's mine. I draw this flower ALL THE TIME actually, it's a very, very common doodle for me.  Usually the lone flower going every which way, but sometimes I chain them. :)

Pinks and greens all pieced!

Here's all of the blocks for the pink and green quilt I'm making. Just need to sew the blocks together, add borders, and quilt!

What I sewed today

It's for my granddaughter' bedroom wall, above her crib. Isn't it CUTE??? (and I've trimmed the corners - shoulda done that before taking the pic, but it was sooooo CUTE!!)

All pieced. Finally!

I gathered the eclectic strips for this quilt at a strip swap more than a year ago, and I finally found a pattern I liked at the Planet Patchwork New Year's Day mystery quilt (thanks, Cyndie for the idea!!)

Anyway, here it is. :)

Now I just have to get it quilted. lol

First finished project of the year!

I'd pieced these blocks awhile back - last spring, maybe? - but I needed to get frames, and sew borders to fit the frames...

Anyway, they're done and I think they look pretty darn cute! They're 4x6" each. :) Paper pieced, all batik.

Quilting

As I had my two current quilting projects draped over the sewing machine last night, I noticed that the quilting on the white one showed up quite well. Here it is, and I hope you all can see it okay.

I really like them when they start being 'bumpy'. :) (the big, red stitches are basting and will be removed )

This weekend's quilt project

I've had this top for a few months, just have to quilt it. I'm stretching it today. :)

Baby Shower 2

Today, I basted. Well, I'm actually still basting, but it's such a cute quilt I couldn't resist a couple more pics.

All stretched, but haven't started basting yet and...

About 3/4 basted. I baste with needle and thread, about 3-4" apart, on my kitchen table. And, yes, I use a spoon. I keep this particular spoon in my 'basting kit' along with the clamps, masking tape, and gray thread. The spoon protects my 'receiving hand' so that when I push the needle through the fabric, I use the spoon to press down, under the needle, so when I tilt it up the tip goes into the spoon's bowl instead of my finger. Learning the 'spoon technique' saved a lot of time, and a lot of sore fingertips. ;)

Baby Shower

One of my best friends' daughter is having a baby shower this weekend. Since I just got my sewing room set up, I'm terribly behind on just about everything, but I managed to piece this today.

It's from a Moda Bakeshop pattern and is pretty easy. The prairie points do take awhile though. :)

4 layouts

Been working on a gift for some friends. It's a table-topper/wall hanging in turquoise and brown, but I'm still trying to decide how to lay it out. Here are my options.

If anyone has any preferences, please leave a comment! :)

One block wondering

I'd started this quilt about a month ago at our guild's annual quilt retreat, but finished the top today. It's about 58" square, which is quite a bit bigger than I thought it'd be. Still need to get it quilted. :)

My Desk Monday

And it's on time! Well, mostly. ;) (don't forget to follow the prompts on Knitty Bitties!)

My sewing table looks pretty much the same as last week, other than my little scissors beside my sewing machine, so I didn't see a reason to post it. However, in the interest of fairness (and my tendency to create explosive messes) I have taken a picture of my cutting table, complete with the current mass of projects.

See? Explosions!!
My computer desk is a bit cluttered - mostly because my cat had abdominal surgery last week and I'm feeding her on it so the other cats don't bother her - and she makes it a bit tricky to work around sometimes. ;)

My desk Monday

Here's my sewing desk and the quilt that I've just finished to hang above it. It's never this clean, I don't know what happened to the fabric bits and threads and things. lol

My Desk Monday, only it's Friday. And I took the picture on Tuesday. ;)

Because KnittyBitties said to post pictures of our desks - as a way to help keep them tidy, ha ha - I decided to play along. Here's my computer desk after the big declutter of last week.

The whole desktop. Note my crushing amount of vitamins and cold medicines on the top. Sigh.

Here's a little still life. ;)

Other than Malaysia's plate (and the one I had some popcorn on that I forgot about but have long since put in the dishwasher. Ooops!!) my desk still looks the same. So far so good there. I'll post again Monday along with this weekend's sewing. I'm taking a class to make a Diamond Jubliee quilt and it's coming along nicely so far! I also have a baby quilt to piece, and several things to send to my pre-readers.

Have a great weekend!

The colorwash quilt

It's almost done. I just have two more sides of binding to do hand work on, and finish attaching the hanging sleeve. I think I'm going to hang it above my sewing table, but, for now, Malaysia has claimed it as hers. ;)

My PhD Projects

I have a LOT of projects that I've been gathering fabric for and really need to start sewing, but I decided that in the best interest of this 'Projects Half Done' idea, I'd stick with quilts that I'd already begun, but hadn't completed yet.

In order of age (oldest to youngest) I'm committing to finishing these six things!

I started this stained glass quilt probably about 8 years ago, if not longer. Unlike a lot of stained glass quilts that use bias tape (often heat applied before finishing) for the leading, this is all one piece of fabric and the hole for each 'pane' of glass is hand-cut out, turned, then reverse appliqued onto the 'glass' fabric. Since I'm not a natural applique-er, it takes a long time, an x-acto knife, and a bit of concentration. But I need to get it done.

I pieced this kitty quilt maybe five years ago, and I have backing and everything, just haven't set myself down and finished it. Time to get it done. :)

This colorwash quilt was made from a 100-charm fabric pack of the Fossil Fern fabric line and it's a pattern called Square Dance. I've had it stretched and basted for almost 2 years now, just have no idea how to quilt the darn thing. Guess I'd better figure it out. ;)

Here's a feathered star I started about a year and a half ago. I still have to piece the center (a much smaller yet structurally the same mini feathered star) plus the pieced flying geese borders. I think there's only one pieced border. Least I hope so. lol

I'd been collecting pinks and greens for a long time and this previous summer I started piecing them into this fun, curvy pattern. I think this will end up as a bed sized quilt - which means I'll send it out to get quilted, but it, too, needs to be finished.

Lastly, I'd started this little table topper back in November, intending to make myself a Christmas quilt, but I obviously haven't finished it yet. It just needs stretched, basted, and quilted. Not too tough, right? ;)

Myra's PhD Challege

I've just committed to SIX projects with Myra's PhD (Projects Half Done) challenge.  Woot!!

Christmas. With my family.

There's one person in my family that I particularly adore, and every year I find it harder and harder to sew for her. This year, after one table runner that just never felt like the right thing, I decided to make her a fabric bowl.

The outside!
I like the colors and I think it turned out really cute. :)

The inside!
We're all getting together this weekend - hopefully, but it's dependent on weather. Here's hoping she likes it! :)
